Submit

Submissions are accepted at the beginning of each semester. Only one first draft may be submitted per author. Please read submission categories carefully before submitting. Undergraduates from all universities are welcome to submit.

In order to submit, please follow these directions carefully.

Early submissions for the Fall 2010 issue are due by 5pm September 24th, 2010. If you submit early, you drastically increase your chances of being published.

Regular submissions for the Fall 2010 are due by 5pm October 1st, 2010.

For Features and Shorts:
In a Word document, provide the following information:
1. Basic information:

a. Name
b. Year of Graduation/School Affiliation
c. Major(s)
d. Email
e. Phone Number

2. Type of submission and proposed word count.
3. Copy and paste your first draft.
4. Submit the completed document as an email attachment entitled, “YourLastName.Submission.doc” to gadflymagazine@gmail.com.

For Interviews and Reviews:
1. Basic information:

a. Name
b. Year of Graduation/School Affiliation
c. Major(s)
d. E-mail
e. Phone Number

2. Type of submission and proposed word count.
3. Proposed book/event/film/exhibit, or proposed interview subject.
4. Submit the completed document as an email attachment entitled,
“YourLastName.Submission.doc” to gadflymagazine@gmail.com.

For Artwork:
Samples of artwork are due by 5pm on March 1st, 2010. Commissions will be given out in mid-March.

In an email, please provide the following information:

1. Basic information

a. Name
b. Year of Graduation/School Affiliation
c. Favorite medium

2. Attach a scanned or photographed sample of your work, or email to
request an appointment to show us a sample in person.

Types of Submissions
Features: 1200-1500 words. The longest articles that constitute the backbone of the magazine. They explore an idea, issue or problem in an interesting and relevant way.

Shorts: 400-700 words. Just what they sound like. Quick pieces that introduce an idea or question in a fun manner. They can be humorous, unconventional or creative. Fiction and poetry pieces are included in this category.

Interviews: 1000-1200 words. Interviewees can be faculty members of any university, or someone outside of academia. An interview can be philosophical in orientation even if the interviewee is not strictly within the field.

Reviews: 700-1000 words. Book reviews, event reviews, film eviews, exhibit reviews. Criticism with a philosophical eye.

Artwork: We publish high-contrast artwork, preferably in ink or marker. Commissions are for 2-4 images, due in mid to late March.
